From 1st May to 4 July 1993
at the invitation of Jean Gagnon, media arts curator,
The National Gallery of Canada
hosted the first large scale
World Tea Party Salon
For this event, works from the Museum's eight different period collections were brought together including paintings, furniture and teaware. The exhibition space became a functional tearoom where fine quality teas were served to visitors throughout the day.
With the intention of bridging the 'traditional' and 'media' universes, an interactive video and audio display system which responded to physical presence and movements of people in the room were installed in the exhibition room.
Please come in. Tea is ready.
